February is American Heart Month. This is normally a month where we think about Valentine’s and love. It’s a good time to love yourself by taking care of your heart. We all need to do this so we can continue to do the things that we love. So, this month take some time to learn about the risks for heart disease and stroke so you can be your best self and a become more heart healthy.
The number one killer of women and men in the United States is cardiovascular disease. There are many risk factors that you can control including: diet, physical activity, tobacco use, obesity, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, and diabetes. So how do you control your risk?
How can you make a difference? Encourage yourself and others by making small changes. Try not to become overwhelmed. Every small step makes a difference and brings you closer to a healthier heart. Don’t get discouraged – make changes one step at a time. Most importantly, reward yourself. Plan a healthy dinner or take an evening walk with friends or family.
